Lootera Review

Pros
Screenplay of the first half is brilliant. There are wonderful close shots of the actors, and the film in general follows  a languid pace, something that goes really well with the kind of the film Looera is. The period is beautifully captured through the locales, the bungalows where the film is shot, the costumes, jewellery etc. Most of the actors do a great job, Ranveer's getting typecast though, it was nice to see Barun Chanda perform, a wonderful Bengali actor. The music adds to the ethereal quality of the film.
Cons
The film mentions inspiration from "The Last Leaf" a famous short story by O Henry . But the connection is not much relevant and doesn't mesh with the story.  The second half drags. How can the Police Inspector not quickly realise that Ranveer is being sheltered by Sonakshi, this is just done to prolong the film.Divya Dutta is wasted.  There was this sexist dialogue by Ranveer to Dvya Dutta, something like using the pistol for grinding masalas which doesn't sound right. The songs Monta Re and Ankahee should have been performed by regular singers, not by Swanand Kirkire and Amitabh Bhattacharya (both good lyricists, but not singers). The lovemaking scene between Ranveer and Sonakshi doesn't work at all, obviously due to Sonakshi's inhibitions

Overall Ranking
8/10
